The Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Yoriko Kishimoto in the democratic primary election for California Assembly District 21.

"I’m delighted to have earned the most sought-after environmental endorsement in this campaign,” said Kishimoto, who has served on the Palo Alto City Council for eight years, with one term as mayor. “I’ve worked hard to make Palo Alto one of the most environmentally-advanced cities in the world, and I know what it takes in Sacramento to make Silicon Valley the center of new green-tech jobs in the future.”

“Yoriko has improved city services and promoted clean energy businesses, walkable and bikeable neighborhoods, community buses, zero waste programs and green building ordinances to reduce greenhouse gases and mitigate traffic,” said John Cordes, Chair of the Chapter’s Political Committee. Yoriko knows we need to address the environmental challenges facing California now. We want to keep California a leader in the green revolution. California needs to be role model for the country and the world. “That’s why she is focusing on making green jobs a priority and working to make the Bay Area and California the leader in the clean technology revolution,” said Cordes.

“Yoriko has been a regional leader in reducing air pollution and improving transportation,” he added. Yoriko served on the Boards of the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. She chaired its Climate Protection Committee, and is a founder of the Green Building Collaborative.

“Yoriko is exactly the kind of legislator we need now in Sacramento. She’ll be an environmental leader,” Cordes concluded.

District 21 includes the cities of San Carlos, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Atherton, Woodside, Los Altos Hills, East Palo Alto, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Gatos and parts of San Jose.
